Hobbler's Challenge 2010

St. Michael's Rowing Club are planning a long distance rowing event in August to wrap up the competitive regatta season on the East Coast. It will top off a very memorable year for rowing in Dún Laoghaire.

The planned event is the Hobbler's Challenge - a memorial race for the hobbler's of the bay. The outline race plan is a simple first-past-the-post event running from Dún Laoghaire around the Kish lighthouse and returning to the harbour with the finish line being at the mouth of the harbour. The format mimics the hobbler's racing to incoming ships on the bank with the first one winning the prize!

The primary goal of the event is to promote the tradition and sport of rowing in Dún Laoghaire harbour. Directly related to this we are planning to be fundraising for the Dún Laoghaire lifeboat who have supported oarsmen since the days of hobbling.
