DÚN LAOGHAIRE HARBOUR SPONSORS LOCAL SAILING

Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company recently announced a diverse sponsorship package for sailing in Dún Laoghaire Harbour. The 470 Dinghy Olympic hopefuls Gerard Owens (Royal St. George Yacht Club) and Ross Killian (National Yacht Club) received support from the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company to start them on their four year programme but has already started them on a firm footing at a major event in Germany. The Port will also be the venue for the 470 European Championships, hosted by the Royal St. George Yacht Club in July.

The Irish Youth Sailing School, based at the Marine Activity Centre West Pier, and managed by Kyron O'Gorman has also received a four-year sponsorship package. Initially this was to help the Club become affiliated to the Irish Sailing Association. The Irish Sailing Association has just confirmed that Kyron has now achieved the necessary criteria and the Club has become a Recognised Teaching Establishment under the National Scheme. The non-profit Club caters for youngsters from all walks of life and gives the opportunity to many that could not otherwise afford "to mess about in boats".
