John DeCourcy Ireland

The Chairman, Board and staff of the Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company were deeply saddened by the death on April 4th this year of Dr John de Courcy Ireland and extend our deepest sympathy to his children and family.

John was a quite remarkable man with a wide range of interests and accomplishments. One of the greatest passions of his long life was Dún Laoghaire Harbour. His care for, and knowledge of, all aspects of the Harbour was unique. He wrote the definitive history of the Harbour which was published in 2001 and was an eminent Irish maritime historian.

For 27 years, as honorary secretary he directed the operations of the lifeboat in Dún Laoghaire and through his involvement with the Maritime Institute of Ireland and the Maritime Museum he made an immense contribution to the preservation of Ireland's and Dún Laoghaire's unique maritime heritage.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Stena Line has announced changes to the HSS sailing schedule on the Dún Laoghaire- Holyhead route. From Monday to Thursday the HSS will sail from Dun Laoghaire at 1110 and 1830; from Friday to Sunday it will sail at 1110, 1605 and 2135. The HSS will be approaching and berthing in the Harbour from Monday to Thursday between approximately 1015 and 1040, and between 1735 and 1800. From Friday to Sunday approach and berthing times will be approximately from 1015 to 1040, 1510 to 1535 and 2040 to 2105.

It is particularly important that sailors and boat users in and around the Harbour take note of these revised sailing times and stay far away from the HSS on entry to and departure from the Harbour.

The schedule will change again on September 24th to two sailings a day until further notice.
