The effect of sailing is produced by a judicious arrangement of the sails to the direction of the wind.

The Harbour Company welcomes the decision of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to give the go-ahead to the Monkstown Ring Road. The Company is strongly of the view that the Ring Road is an essential piece of infrastructure for the provision of good access and direct routes to the Port and wrote to all members of the Council seeking their support for the road.
The Company believes construction of the road is in the interest of the future growth and development of the Port and its contribution to the local economy. In its submission to the Department of Finance on the National Development Plan 2007-2013, the Dublin Regional Authority identified improved access to Dun Laoghaire Port and the Ring Road as projects with the highest priority.

Preliminary details have been announced about the 2007 Dun Laoghaire Regatta which will take place over four days from the 12th to the 15th of July. Organisers are expecting up to 600 entries – significantly more than this year's Cork Week event. The inaugural Dun Laoghaire Regatta in 2005 attracted 3,000 sailors in 400 boats. Next year's event based in the Harbour will see over 150 races on six different courses across Dublin Bay.
The event chairman, Brian Craig, has confirmed that Volvo will sponsor the 2007 and 2009 events. He also announced that the onshore regatta festival based around the Harbour and town would be significantly expanded in 2007.
Best known in sailing as sponsor of the Ocean Race, Volvo has also been a regular supporter of sailing at Olympic and youth level. The Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006 was the most successful Round the World Race to date.
The event has also attracted the Ecover Half Ton Classic Cup which will run from the 9th to the 14th July, overlapping with the regatta.
The Regatta office has received a number of enquiries from crews in Ireland, Scotland and the rest of the UK seeking accommodation for the Regatta. These crews are keen to set their sailing calendar for 2007 and securing accommodation is important well in advance. As accommodation in Dun Laoghaire is very limited, any person who has a property / yacht that they wish to rent / charter to a visiting crew for the Regatta should contact the Regatta Secretary, Ciara Dowling via email at

The Harbour Company was a sponsor of the very successful All Ireland Sailing Championships based in the National Yacht Club on October 7th and 8th. Top sailors from all over Ireland converged on the Harbour with the adult fleet competing in the sleek 1720 sportsboats and the juniors racing in the colourful Topper dinghies.
