Green Dragon Returns |

Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council hosted a welcome home for Green Dragon on Sunday 12 July. 
Green Dragon - Ireland's entry in the Volvo Ocean Race, finished the race in St Petersburg and is on its way to Ireland for a big Irish homecoming. Green Dragon one of only four boats to complete every leg of the race, during the nine month period, finished fifth overall and won three leg podium finishes. Since the epic began in Alicante in October 2008 the 11 crew led by skipper double Olympic Medallist Ian Walker have really endured life at the extreme with a broken boom, and nursing the boat from the coast of Taiwan to Qingdao. |

Recreational area at Man 'o War steps fully opened |

On Tuesday 30 June 2009 Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company's latest project to improve the recreational areas of the harbour was fully opened. 
The area adjacent to the "Man o War" steps allows access to all, many people choosing to sit and reflect close to the water and at the same time enjoy the boating activities close by. Much of the original granite has been kept in situ, any new stone used was brought from other parts of the harbour. Much of the original railings have also been salvaged. Although the area has a northerly aspect it does enjoy sun for most of the day. The Man o War steps were also used by the British Navy as a landing point for the ship's cutters. |

The Harbour Plaza umbrella is back! |

"The focal point of Harbour Plaza - The Umbrella - is back.  
First erected in July 2001, it subsequently suffered storm damage in the Autumn of the same year, winds in excess of 80 mph causing the mainframe to buckle. The umbrella was sent back to the makers for inspection and repair. After much discussion over the intervening years, it was decided to run with a new product and this was erected on the Plaza, 12 June 2009"
