The works currently underway at the East Pier Battery are essential conservation works to the former Officers and Soldiers Quarters buildings within the Battery complex. The works comprise roof and chimney repairs; localised stitching of cracks in masonry walls and re-rendering of the seaward walls of these buildings. While the buildings themselves are simple domestic buildings and the repair works typical of buildings of this type and age, the exposed location presents the greatest challenge for this contract.

At this stage the roof has been stripped (all sound slates will be retained and reused) and generally the timber roof structure looks to be in good condition. As the project proceeds we will learn more about these buildings, their original construction details and their condition
