In Honour and Memory
Memorials of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown

Description
The Heritage Officer of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown has recently published the booklet In Honour and Memory - the Memorials of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown. This booklet celebrates a small but important part of our cultural landscape. The memorials in it go from the well-known to the not so well known. From plaques on walls to full blown monuments. From the George iv memorial in Dún Laoghaire to the Nathaniel Alcock memorial buried in the woods of Carrickgollogan, from a simple stone bench to Sandycove postman Denis Burton to 3 Monkstown astronomers, from Evie Hone in Marlay Park to Stephen Roche in Dundrum. While the array of people featured in the booklet is impressive it is perhaps surprising that more of the many illustrious inhabitants of this part of Dublin have not been given public recognition for their works.

Cost €10 each. Copies are available from all booksellers and from DLRCoCo, Contact tcarey@dlrcoco.ie for more information.

A Guide to Dublin Bay: Mirror to the City
By John Givens

A Guide to Dublin Bay, a Mirror to the City

Description
A Guide to Dublin Bay takes a comprehensive look at some key issues facing Dublin today. It reviews the history and geography of the bay and its shorelines, discusses the great marine engineering achievements of the bull walls and Dun Laoghaire Harbour, and offers an overview of the many uses of the bay-as a channel for immense container ships and a venue for sailing competitions, as a place for strolling or swimming or fishing or just decompressing from the rigours of life in the capital city. There are, in effect, many Dublin Bays. This book collects them together and indicates the risks we face and the opportunities we have for preserving and transforming Dublin and its bay.

With dozens of photographs, maps and illustrations, A Guide to Dublin Bay will be of great interest to both locals and tourists, and indeed to anyone with an appreciation of this unique and exceptional natural resource.
