Why does Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company charge for parking in the evenings and at weekends and Bank Holidays?
Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company charges for parking in the evenings and at weekends and Bank Holidays to give the opportunity to regular Harbour Users to contribute to the maintenance of the Piers and other infrastructure within the Harbour. All income derived from pay and display goes towards the maintenance budget.
Who funds the harbour?
The Dun Laoghaire Harbour Company is a state commercial company charged with the responsibility for the maintenance and development of Dun Laoghaire Harbour. The Harbour Company is required to be self-funding by statute. We do not receive any state or local authority funding. Where is the Tourist Information Office?
The Tourist Information Office is located in the Ferry Terminal Building.
Where does the HSS go?
The HSS Service operates between Holyhead in North Wales, UK and Dun Laoghaire Harbour, Eire.

What is the purpose of the small square holes situated at regular intervals on the East Pier?
These holes on the face of the two levels of the East Pier are 'breathing holes'used to relieve the pressures within the Pier caused by the weight of water on the seaward side of the pier.
What is the origin of the two cannons on the East Pier?
The cannons are Crimean War Trophies. The one in the East Pier gardens is a 24 pounder but its date of manufacture is not known. It is rumoured that the upended cannon on the East Pier was brought back by Captain Copfton! (Harbour Master 1874-1900. (At least twenty trophy cannons were presented to town Councils around Ireland in the summer of 1856). Tuesday the 24 February 2004 marked the 150th anniversary of the departure in 1854 of the first Irish Troops to the Crimea. On that date the 50th Foot boarded the troop ship Cumbria in the Harbour. The regiment was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Richard Waddy from Wexford.
